Latest News The Government has extended the validity period of EPC for properties being marketed for sale from 12 months to 3 years with effect from 9th September 2008. As at 1st October 2008 all properties for sale must have an EPC regardless of whether they previously need a full Home Information Pack or not. EPCs are also required for all rented properties (private and social) whenever the property is let. EPCs for rented properties are valid for 10 years.

Wh o are we?
Energywise Assessments is a small family firm, located in the heart of the Royal Forest of Dean and serving the Forest areas and surrounding counties of Gloucestershire, Monmouthshire and Herefordshire. We are licensed to provide Energy Performance Certificates as required by the Housing Act 2004.. We can provide EPC's either at the point of marketing your property or if you just want to know the energy performance of your home in order to make improvements to both reduce your carbon footprint and reduce your heating costs. The Energy Performance Certificates are valid for 12 months from the date of issue so you can always commission us to provide you with an EPC prior to marketing your home so that you can make improvements prior to sale and thus help you to achieve the best possible price for your property.
Why have an EPC? One of the biggest contributors to global warming is carbon dioxide. The way we use energy in buildings causes emissions of carbon. The energy we use for heating, lighting and power in homes produces over a quarter of the UK's carbon dioxide emissions and other buildings produce a further one-sixth with the average household generating about 6 tonnes of carbon dioxide every year. In an effort to reduce our carbon emissions, the Government have now directed that Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) be required by law before you can sell your house. Energy Performance Certificates tell you how energy efficient a home is on a scale of A-G. The most efficient homes - which should have the lowest fuel bills - are in band A. The Certificate also tells you, on a scale of A-G, about the impact the home has on the environment. Better-rated homes should have less impact through carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
By the end of 2009 most buildings will require an EPC including rented dwellings, public and commercial buildings. An EPC can only be carried out by a qualified Home Inspector (HI) or Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA) who is accredited with a Government licensed Accreditation Scheme. At Energywise Assessments all our DEAs are all fully qualified and accredited to issue EPCs. We are also members of the Institute of Domestic Energy Assessors and abide by their strict code of ethics.
